Hot air balloon rides in Bristol
Balloon flights over Bristol
Take off from Ashton Court – the home of the Balloon Fiesta – and drift over Clifton, the Avon Gorge and the harbour.
Bristol is where ballooning in Britain really comes alive. Every August the city hosts Europe’s largest balloon festival, but you don’t have to wait for the Fiesta to see Bristol from the sky. We fly over the city all year round from Ashton Court, the 850-acre estate on the south-west edge of the city where the Fiesta itself takes place.
Within minutes of lift-off you’re level with Clifton and looking straight down the Avon Gorge to Brunel’s Suspension Bridge. Depending on the wind, flights drift over the harbourside, south Bristol or out across the countryside towards the Chew Valley, with views on a clear day across the Severn to the Welsh hills.
Our pilots are local, our baskets are small – never more than eight passengers – and we know the Bristol skies better than anyone. If the wind isn’t right for a city flight, we’ll move you to one of our nearby sites at Keynsham or the Chew Valley so you still fly.
What you’ll see over Bristol
- Clifton Suspension Bridge – Brunel’s bridge spanning the Avon Gorge, seen from above
- The harbourside – The SS Great Britain, the floating harbour and the city centre
- Ashton Court Estate – The mansion, the deer park and the Fiesta field
- Cabot Tower & the Wills Building – Bristol’s skyline landmarks from a new angle
- The Severn bridges – On a clear day, both crossings and the Welsh hills beyond
Balloons fly with the wind, so no two flights follow the same path – your pilot will point out the landmarks as you go.
